Mental health students or professionals in the school, agency, or private practice may participate in this experiential ethics workshop on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 1:30-4:45pm at The Playroom Lubbock (6520 University Ave #5) Lubbock, TX (806-340-0715). This workshop meets the requirement for continuing education directly related to Texas LPC ethics as required by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.

Training Description:

In this experiential and informational workshop Kelly will use an art activity to guide participants in reflecting on their ethical identity. (No previous art experience is needed. All materials will be provided). Participants will review current code of ethics and recent changes as they apply to LPC, MFT, and LSW. Laurel Clement, an attorney at law and LPC who represents therapists, will address ethical concerns from a legal perspective. Participants will have the opportunity to ask her about ethical dilemmas and legal risks. 3 CE direct contact credit hours will be provided for LPC, LMFT, LSW.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explore ethical identity through an experiential art activity

2.  Review current ethics per state board 

3.  Establish an ethical decision making process

4. Analyze ethical concerns from a legal standpoint

Presenters

Kelly Martin, MEd, LPC, RPT is a licensed professional counselor and registered play therapist. Kelly is the founder of The Playroom Lubbock, a collaborative therapy practice for children and adolescents where she provides parent consultations and play, activity, and sandtray therapies. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Lubbock Christian University and her Masters in Education in Counseling from University of North Texas. Kelly is the board President of the High Plains Chapter for the Texas Association for Play Therapy and a recent graduate of the Association for Play Therapy Leadership Academy.

Laurel Clement is a mother who happens to do a few other things on the side. At this time, she is in private practice as an attorney. She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor. Her legal practice consists of Family Law, Special Education cases and representing therapists. Laurel has spent too much time and money attending school. She received a bachelor’s degree from Austin College in Sherman. Her two majors were Business & Sociology. Laurel received a Master of Arts degree from UTA in Criminal Justice. Laurel received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Baylor University. After passing the Bar exam, Laurel was licensed as an attorney in November 1989. Laurel received a Master of Arts degree from Amberton University in 1997. She was licensed by the Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors in 1998. She enrolled in the Ph.D. program in counseling at A & M Commerce for a couple of years to refresh her counseling skills and knowledge.
