Mental health students or professionals in the school, agency, or private practice may participate in this introduction to Play Therapy workshop on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:00a-12:15p at The Playroom Lubbock (6520 University Ave #5) Lubbock, TX (806-340-0715)

Training Description:

Participants will obtain a foundational knowledge of play therapy basics: rationale, philosophy, history, interventions, and techniques. Participants will  be introduced to a play therapy playroom and toys, participate in experiential activities, and view video clips of play therapy sessions. 3 CE direct contact credit hours will be provided for APT, LPC, LMFT, LSW.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain the rationale of play therapy 

2. Identify materials needed for a play therapy playroom

3. Practice basic play therapist responses and skills

4. Practice basic limit setting and potential challenges

Schedule:

8:45-9:00 Check-In

9:00-10:30 Play Therapy instruction

10:30-10:45 Break

10:45-12:15 Play Therapy instruction, evaluations

Participants must register to attend this training. Cancellations received by January 13, 2018 are refundable, less a $25.00 administration fee. No refunds after January 13, 2018. Attendees must be present the entire duration of the training.

Presenter

Kelly Martin, MEd, LPC, RPT is a licensed professional counselor and registered play therapist. Kelly is the founder of The Playroom Lubbock, a collaborative therapy practice for children and adolescents where she provides parent consultations and play, activity, and sandtray therapies. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Lubbock Christian University and her Masters in Education in Counseling from University of North Texas. Kelly is the board President of the High Plains Chapter for the Texas Association for Play Therapy and a recent graduate of the Association for Play Therapy Leadership Academy.
