Mental health students or professionals in the school, agency, or private practice may participate in this introduction to Play Therapy and Sandtray workshop on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 9:30-5:00 at Farhat Family Counseling, 117 John Street, Aledo, TX 76008.

Training Description:

Participants will obtain a foundational knowledge of play and sandtray therapy basics: rationale, philosophy, interventions, and techniques. Participants will be introduced to a play therapy playroom and toys, participate in experiential activities, and view video clips of play therapy sessions. Participants will be introduced to sandtrays and miniatures, and participate in individual and group sandtrays. 6 CE direct contact credit hours will be provided for APT, LPC, LMFT, LSW.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain the rationale and brain science behind play and sandtray therapy. 

2. Identify materials needed for play and sandtray therapy.

3. Practice basic responses and skills

4. Describe conducting and processing a sandtray

5. Practice basic limit setting in play therapy and potential challenges

6. Describe ways of implementing play and sandtray therapy into the attendee's setting.

Kelly Martin, MEd, LPC, RPT is a licensed professional counselor and registered play therapist in Lubbock, TX. Kelly is the founder of The Playroom Lubbock, a collaborative therapy practice for children and adolescents where she provides parent consultations and play, activity, and sandtray therapies. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Lubbock Christian University and her Masters in Education in Counseling from University of North Texas. Kelly was a school counselor in Weatherford ISD for 4 years before moving to Lubbock and eventually opening her private practice. Kelly is the board President of the High Plains Chapter for the Texas Association for Play Therapy and a recent graduate of the Association for Play Therapy Leadership Academy.

Lisa Garrett Farhat's private practice Farhat Family Counseling serves families throughout Fort Worth and Weatherford. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist. She obtained her BBA from Baylor and M.Ed from University of North Texas. Lisa was a school counselor for 5 years in IRVING ISD before opening her private practice.
